Organization to be represented at multiple GBV activities as part of International Womens Day Initiatives.
WENC is adamant that the economic disenfranchisement of women and girls through the scourge of GBV must be eliminated, so notes President of WENC, Ethnie Miller Simpson. We have established active partnerships with several government and non-governmental organizations as part of our commitment to one of the most important social causes of our time.
Following a series of membership fora, and formalized in a recent Board of Directors meeting, the Jamaica chapter of WENC committed to a raft of joint initiatives, many of which are slated to form part of the activities for International Womens Day.
Most notably, WENC has contributed to and endorsed the initiatives presented to the Prime Minister, the Hon. Andrew Holness, through the 51% Coalition: Women in Partnership for Development. Further, the organization will be represented at the March 8, 2017 staging of the #BeBoldForChange March, Parade and Unite To End Gender-based Violence #UniteToEndGBV Concert being organized through the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport. WENC has also confirmed its presence at the Church Service being organized through the Ministry on Sunday March 12, 2017 at the Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre on Waltham Park Road. With long term impact in mind, WENC has partnered with high schools across Jamaica to focus on general career focused development and STEM professional driven conversations to further encourage financial independence of girls especially in traditional male dominated science and energy related professions. Regionally, WENC will contribute to the UN Women driven Step It Up Campaign to be launched soon.
True to its commitment to multi-lateral partnerships with NGO cohorts, WENC is also expected to share center stage in keystone events including the Vital Voices Mentoring Walk in Mandeville on March 11, 2017, being organized by fellow international womens empowerment advocacy group, Vital Voices. Following the walk, women are encouraged to participate in a WENC parish meeting focused on the advancement of the WENC mandate in central Jamaica and what they can do to help.
