Online PR News 07-September-2015 – On July 25th, 2015 over 100 dedicated volunteers in the music and film industry joined forces to create a music video that is expected to receive international acclaim.

Executive Producer and Co-Writer of Why Me? Amy Hines states, “The inspiration behind this song was fueled by an aggressive Facebook attack directed at Bluegrass Singer and Co-Writer, Donna Hughes. Donna had written a song, ‘Dog on a 10 Foot Chain’ that had remained on the top of the charts for 10 weeks straight. One afternoon, critics attacked her publicly and told her that no one cared about a stupid dog. The trolling escalated and Donna was devastated. Donna and I share our love for music and animals. I suggested that the best way to make people understand how wrong abuse is (be it a dog or a person), is to write a song from the dogs perspective but using humans to depict the scenes in a music video. It was a groundbreaking, extremely controversial concept and we knew it. I guess I have always lived by the motto, Go Big or Go Home. It took less than 24 hours to write that song and the second it was finished, we KNEW we had a hit.”

Bria Kelly, famous for her powerhouse, steam rolling vocals was the obvious choice to pull off such a riveting song. Bria agreed to debut Why Me? at a charity event for Dogs Deserve Better in March. The song left people speechless with not a dry eye in the building. When asked what this song means to Bria, she replied, “I am humbled by the opportunity to support such an amazing cause. It should be an eye opening reality check to those who turn a blind eye to animal cruelty.”

Shortly thereafter, the song traveled to Nashville where it was professionally mixed by musician Scott Vestal who has played with such notables as Dierks Bentley, Sam Bush and David Lee Roth. Jenee Fleenor, currently traveling with Blake Sheltons Band offered her talent by singing backups and playing the fiddle.

Dr. Sheri Bias, Liquid Talent Agency joined the team by providing over 50 professional actors.

Cetre Pegues, Director of Why Me? attended the event that day. Cetre and the entire Whos Johnny Creative production team immediately jumped on board to produce the music video in hopes of raising awareness and showing the correlation between animal abuse and crimes against humanity. “In film school, they tell you to avoid working with animals and children. This project had bothand I love a good challenge. In addition to the challenge, I am a huge dog lover. After I heard the music, there was no doubt that I HAD to be a part of this meaningful project. Our goal was to have universal appeal. We hit the nail on the head.”

On July 25th, actors, writers, producers and Bria Kelly showed up on 1915 Moonlight Rd. in Smithfield, VA once the home of Michael Vick’s “Bad Newz” dog fighting compound (now home of Dogs Deserve Better that operates the Good Newz Rehabilitation Center for Chained & Penned Dogs) to create what could only be described as a surreal experience. After 22 hours of filming on the very property where dozens of dogs had been fought and died, no one left without having a life altering experience.

The music video will Premiere on September 25, 2015 at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center 2410 Wickham Avenue Newport News, VA. General public is welcome to attend the red carpet and premiere. Tickets can be purchased on a first come, first served basis by clicking the “Premiere” link above. Limited seats are available. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Byrdsong Entertainment is hosting the event.
“Why Me?” will be available for download immediately following the video release. A portion of every sale will benefit the dogs residing at the Good Newz Rehabilitation Center for Chained & Penned Dogs.
