KUNMING, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#Yunnan--The 5th World Media Summit (Yunnan Branch) and the 2nd Yunnan International Communication Forum kicked off on December 6, 2023, in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province in Southwestern China, gathering more than 300 representatives of around 80 institutions, including media outlets, international organizations and think tanks, from nearly 30 countries and regions .
The opening of the summit on December 5 witnessed the adoption of the Kunming Initiative, the launch of a theme activity named "A Lifestyle Called Yunnan", as well as the release of the list of trending words for international communication generated by Xinhuanet.
According to the agenda of the summit, the attendees will discuss a variety of topics, including the new opportunity for international media’s cooperation created by the Belt and Road Initiative, the international promotion of cities taking "A Lifestyle Called Yunnan" as an example, international cultural exchange, and international corporate branding. They will take a tour to various places in Kunming as well.
Located in Southwestern China, Yunnan Province is China's gateway to Southeast and South Asia. Yunnan is the most ethnically diverse province in China, with 25 hereditary ethnic minorities in addition to the Han Chinese.
Yunnan has all the ecosystem types on the earth except oceans and deserts, and plays a very important role in the conservation of biodiversity in China and even in the world. It is known as the "Kingdom of Animals", the "Kingdom of Plants" and the "Garden of the World".
In 2021, the epic trek of Yunnan's ‘wandering Asian elephants’ going north and returning to the south attracted global attention.

At the opening of the summit, Yunnan Province extended an invitation to the rest of the world to come to Yunnan and experience “A Lifestyle Called Yunnan", to explore the magnificent nature, to feel the local human touch, to enjoy the poetic habitat, and to savor the Yunnan lifestyle and witness the wonders of life together.
