Airline’s first US destination paves way for more long-haul intercontinental flights
TAIPEI, Taiwan & LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Taiwan-based luxury carrier STARLUX Airlines achieved a major milestone yesterday with the inauguration of its nonstop service between Taipei and Los Angeles, the airline’s first destination in North America. STARLUX marked this momentous occasion with a celebratory event following Flight JX002’s 11:00 a.m. PT landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and prior to Flight JX001’s 12:50 a.m. PT departure today. STARLUX Chairman K.W. Chang, who holds the rank of Captain for the Airbus A350 type rating, piloted the inaugural flight from Taipei to Los Angeles.
The inaugural flight is the first of a series of new long-haul intercontinental routes planned for North America, Europe, and Oceania. Starting today, STARLUX service to Taipei departs from Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday. Service to Los Angeles will depart Taipei Airport on Monday and Wednesday through Saturday. STARLUX will operate the route with its next-generation Airbus A350 aircraft. The five-times weekly service is expected to ramp to daily in June.
STARLUX’s inaugural flight celebration was held at the Flight Path Museum at LAX. Featured speakers included STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai, LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci and TECO Director General Amino C.Y. CHI. Partner sports teams the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Clippers also joined the cerebration. MLB legend and former Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey and LA Clippers alum Craig Smith signed autographs. The Clippers Spirit Dancers, for the first time, performed in front of an aircraft and on the ramp. Event guests toured the luxury A350 cabin, perused sports-themed amenities which will be provided starting this June, like meal packaging, playing cards, eye masks, luggage tags, and more. Several lucky ones won raffles and brought home jerseys signed by the Dodgers and Clippers.
“Today we celebrate a major milestone for STARLUX — completion of our very first long-haul flight from Taipei to Los Angeles. It is a gratifying moment as we reflect on our early 2020 launch flights that took place right before the pandemic. We remained undaunted and forged ahead leveraging Taipei’s geographical advantage to expand routes to 16 Asian destinations,” said STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai. “Our Los Angeles destination marks the achievement of our goal for a trans-Pacific network. Now passengers will be able to enjoy flying with us from Los Angeles to major cities in Asia, with an easy transfer in Taipei.”
The new flights will be flown on STARLUX’s Airbus 350 aircraft and feature four seats in First, 26 in Business, 36 in Premium Economy and 240 in Economy. From first class to economy, STARLUX flights are designed to delight and soothe the senses, from earth-toned interiors to award-winning crew attire to curated in-cabin aromatherapy and Michelin-rated meals.
Guests on the new route will enjoy luxury service. First and Business travelers have a private space with a sliding door and seats with full-flat and Zero G mode for full relaxation. The extra-legroom Premium Economy section features a 40-inch Recaro seat with leg rest and footrest bar. Economy Class seats are built for utmost comfort, with leather headrest and wide seat pitch. And all guests have seatback entertainment featuring 4K personal large screens.
The new flights provide exquisite dining including Taiwanese signature dishes and amenities prepared for all-class passengers to enjoy an at-home experience in the air. To bring greater individuality to their air travel experience, passengers can pre-order meals online so they can enjoy the meal they want.
In addition, STARLUX LAX-TPE flights will feature a variety of LA Dodgers-themed amenities from June to the end of the baseball season in October, followed by an array of LA Clippers-themed amenities from November to June 2024.
