This month Elvis & Kresse was recognised for their meaningful work as a leader in the movement of people using business as a force for good. Having made the most positive improvement on its overall impact based on an independent, comprehensive assessment administered by the nonprofit B Lab.

In 2005 Elvis & Kresse had a chance encounter with the London Fire Brigade. When they learned that London’s damaged decommissioned fire-hoses were headed to landfill they mounted a rescue. Elvis & Kresse was set up to save it. For over a decade none of Londons fire-hose have gone to landfill, over 180 tons of material has been reclaimed and 50% of the profits from their Fire-hose Collection have been donated to the Fire Fighters Charity. Late last year Elvis & Kresse partnered with the Burberry Foundation to tackle the even greater global problem of leather waste. This Five-year partnership will see at least 120 tonnes of leather off-cuts from Burberry recrafted into new luxury items, designed and sold by Elvis & Kresse. 50% of the profits from the leather rescue project will be donated to renewable energy projects.
Kresse Wesling (MBE) on earning a place on the 2018 Best For The World: Changemakers list: One of the things we always ask ourselves whenever making any business decision, no matter how big or small is Is this business decision bad for other peoples grandchildren? And if the answer in anyway is yes, then dont make it. Period. We dont have time for exploitative, destructive businesses. Those days are gone. Im incredibly proud to be a part of a larger community that doesnt only believe in doing good, but also continuously strives to be better.
Additional 2018 Best For The World: Changemakers honourees include: Community Sector Banking; Fetzer Vineyards; and Future State.
With the rise of anger at a system that feels rigged, people are hungry for companies like Elvis & Kresse, who are changing the system by building businesses that seek to create the greatest positive impact, says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. Best for the World is the only list of businesses that uses comprehensive, comparable, third-party-validated data about a companys social and environmental performance. As consumers, talent and investors increasingly demand transparent, values-aligned businesses to buy from, work at and invest in, companies will need to not just be the best in the world, but the best for the world. And not just to be nice, but to be the most successful.
