Neurosurgeon G. Logan Douds, MD Adds New Specialty to Coronado Surgical Recovery Suites in Las Vegas

Minimally invasive spine surgeries with faster recovery are now available for patients at Coronado Surgical Recovery Center in Las Vegas valley.

Online PR News � 06-September-2018 – Coronado Surgical Recovery Suites offers yet another premium medical specialty to its patients with the addition of G. Logan Douds, MD, a highly-trained and experienced Neurosurgeon currently on staff at LVNI Center for Spine and Brain Surgery.

Dr. Douds will be performing eligible spinal surgeries at Coronado including surgical laminectomy, lumbar fusion, spinal cord stimulator, microdiscectomy, and disc replacement. He will also assist patients with other procedures to address cervical and lumbar stenosis, arm and leg pain, weakness, and numbness, radiating pain, myelopathy, radiculopathy, disc herniation, sciatica, and lower back pain, and other minimally invasive surgical procedures.

Originally hailing from Pennsylvania, Dr. Douds received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. His neurological surgery residency took place at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he included an Enfolded Endovascular Fellowship and a term as Chief Resident during his time there.

Post-residency, Douds moved on to a combined Microvascular and Endovascular Fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington, then arrived in Las Vegas in 2011. Dr. Douds specializes in Neurological Surgery treating the full spectrum of intracranial and spinal disease, and is the only fellowship-trained endovascular neurosurgeon in Southern Nevada.

My association with Coronado Surgical Recovery Suites evolved over a long period of time as I got to know Dr. Michael Crovetti, and Im very much looking forward to working with his entire team at Coronado, states Douds. I discovered that we share a similar passion for our specialties most importantly that we are both hyper focused on ensuring the best possible outcomes and experiences for our patients. After spinal surgery, there are really very few reasons to keep patients in bed with no activity, and thats often the protocol in hospitals. In fact, its really much better for patients to get up and about right away to eliminate complications such as blood clots or respiratory issues. The fact that it also speeds up their recovery and gets them home faster is another benefit, as getting them back to their normal activities more quickly is the goal. Although, I have heard patients get so comfortable at the recovery suites that theyd rather stay longer. I suppose around-the-clock attention, a high nurse-to-patient ratio, Tempurpedic beds, and catered meals might have something to do with that, he laughs.

Im looking forward to being able to offer my patients an alternative to the typical hospital experience. I believe those who are eligible for certain minimally invasive procedures that can be done at Coronado Surgical Recovery Suites will benefit greatly from the opportunity – and they seem to agree. In fact, when I began doing some informal polling before making the decision to move forward with this cooperative approach, every single patient responded that they would prefer the surgical suites experience. While I believed that might be the case, I think their 100% agreement surprised even me!

Ive found that the best candidates for these surgeries are not only in relatively good health aside from their pain, but those who are motivated to really participate in every stage of the process; those who (simply put) want to get it done, over with, and get on with their lives. Taking an active part in your own recovery can make a big difference in the outcome. Thats why I believe so strongly that this collaboration will be of such benefit to my patients.

But the surgery itself is just one part of the process, Douds continues. Theres all of the pre-op work to be done the paperwork and insurance, then post-op plans. Here, the pre-op will be handled by the Coronado staff, making for a much smoother process for the patient. And the post-op information will be very straightforward: patients will receive clear rehab and medication instructions, answers to all their questions, and an easier discharge and consultation experience. That sounds like a lot, and it is. But with the Coronado team handling it all as opposed to the patient having to coordinate with a hospital, insurance companies, and a multitude of doctors before and after the surgery it makes a big difference. Patients are able to concentrate on their recovery, instead of wondering why their insurance company hasnt called them back yet.
