Kanyakumari-Bangalore Express derails in TamilNadu – 10 injured

At least 10 people were injured when the Kanyakumari-Bangalore Island Express derailed early on Friday morning near Tirupathur in Tamil Nadu. No casualties have been reported. Those injured in the accident have been taken to hospitals.

The accident site is close to the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.

Rail PRO Anil Saxena said that relief and rescue operations are in full swing and medical aid is being given to the injured. “As a result of the derailment, 11 coaches were affected. 8-10 injured persons have been admitted to a hospital. We have rushed some buses to the accident site to clear the stranded passengers,” he said.

The Island Express runs daily between Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru in Karnataka. The train runs through a major portion of Kerala as well. The train left Kanyakumari on Thursday morning and was scheduled to reach Bengaluru at 7 am today.
