DHgate Supports the Opening of the 2nd APEC Cross-Border E-Commerce Training Workshop

BEIJING–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#crossborderecommerce–The 2nd APEC Cross-Border E-Commerce Training Workshop (APEC CBET II) unveils in Beijing on September 8, 2021. This online workshop is endorsed by the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce of China, supported by DHgate. Four economies, namely Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Peru, and Russia are co-sponsoring the workshop.

The APEC CBET II focuses on topics such as the challenge and development of global trade amid pandemic, the global cross-border e-commerce trend amid pandemic, how to build a resilient supply chain and create cybersecurity strategy. It tends to provide government officials with ideas and inspiration of digital economy construction, public policy planning, and digital trade transformation, as well as best practices.

Mr. Yu Benlin, Director General of Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of Ministry of Commerce of China, Ms. Diane Wang, a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council, Founder, Chairperson, and CEO of DHgate, government officials from over 10 APEC economies and about 100 honored guests, and representatives from Central Cyberspace Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, General Administration of Customs, and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade participated in the opening session of the workshop in the morning of September 8, 2021 (GMT+8).

Nowadays, we are reeling from the impact of COVID-19. In the wake of the pandemic, cross-border e-commerce digitalization is speeding up. According to the UNCATD, the global cross-border e-commerce industry just turned the table in 2020 and saw a year-on-year rise of 20%. At the same time, MSMEs account for more than 97% of enterprises in APEC economies. Mr. Yu Benlin said in his opening remarks, “MSMEs’ full participation in cross-border e-commerce is significant to employment and global trade as well as the long-term post-pandemic economic recovery. China is the world’s largest e-commerce market, and cross-border e-commerce is also a pillar for China’s foreign trade. China has long been committed to fostering a favorable policy environment for MSMEs to embrace the digital economy, to realize digital transformation, to upgrade the traditional foreign trade and to boost bilateral and multilateral cross-border e-commerce and digital trade cooperation.”

Ms. Diane Wang pointed, “Over 60% of global GDP would be digitized by 2022. MSMEs now are long for targeted supports to utilize digital tools, weather the crisis and achieve inclusive growth amid the global digital transformation. Supporting MSMEs is not an easy job. Instead, it requires a strong collaboration between the public and private sectors including governments and business leaders, and other multilateral organizations including the UN, WTO, and others.”

Last year, the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 was issued at the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. It reiterated the significance of the digital economy and digital trade development and sought to bring more opportunities for MSMEs and women to be involved in development. This workshop is a platform to boost digital trade cooperation. China will share experiences on cross-border e-commerce development with APEC members and create favorable conditions for MSMEs in the Asia-Pacific region to integrate into international trade and achieve sustainable growth.

Senior experts and representatives from renowned consulting groups, industry associations, and big companies attend the 2nd APEC CBET Workshop and share their insights. Prof. Sheng Bin, Dean of School of Economics at Nankai University and Director of China APEC Academy, Mr. Witada Anukoonwattaka, Economic Affairs Officer of Trade Policy and Analysis Section of Trade and Investment Division in UNESCAP, Ms. Huimin Wang, Deputy Director of Credit Institute in Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, Mr. Daniel Pellathy, Assistant Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Management of Grand Valley State University and Prof. Yao Weiqun, Deputy Director of Asia Pacific Model E-port Network Operation Center are invited to deliver keynote speeches and panel discussions.
