DataStax Further Expands in Asia-Pacific with New Office and General Manager in China

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–DataStax today announced it has further expanded its footprint in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market with the opening of a new office and the addition of a new general manager in Beijing, China. The expansion into China reinforces DataStaxs commitment to the APAC market and to meeting increasing demand from enterprises who are deploying real-time data at global scale. DataStax delivers the NoSQL standard built on the world’s most scalable database, Apache Cassandra™.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for DataStax across greater China as demand for database solutions and services increase due to massive data growth from smartphones, IoT devices, electric vehicles and other data-driven applications and devices,” said Chet Kapoor, Chairman and CEO at DataStax. “We are excited about our expansion in China to support the growing number of companies adopting an open data stack to improve customer experiences, deliver real-time data and drive new innovations to accelerate revenue growth.”

According to a study from IDC and Seagate, China will generate more data than the United States by 2025 as it pushes into new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

To support the expansion, Tom Lu, an IT veteran with 30 years of experience in providing enterprise data solutions to businesses in greater China, has joined DataStax as the regional general manager. Prior to joining DataStax, Lu held various leadership positions including senior vice president at GDS, Dynamics BG Lead for Microsoft China, planning director at Huawei Gauss DB, and he was the chief technology officer of Sybase China.

“I am very excited to join DataStax and help organizations in the highly data-driven region tap the power of the most scalable database on the planet combined with next-generation event streaming technology to innovate and win in this competitive market,” said Lu.
