Borano Doors Manufactured from Sustainable Timber Sources

San Pedro Sula, Honduras, March 02, 2009 –(PR.com)– Borano, Inc., a manufacturer of handcrafted mahogany doors, windows and flooring, has announced its use of wood derived from sustainable timber harvesting. The eco-friendly practice involves replacing a tree when another is harvested for use, whether naturally grown or planted. Using sustainable timber reduces Boranos ecological impact and also provides long-term income potential for the local people from where the wood is derived.

“As a manufacturer of exquisite wood products, it is important to be a good steward of the environment,” says Lisa Meckley, marketing manager for Borano.

“Using sustainable timber is a responsible approach to manufacturing and we’re proud Borano uses it for all of our doors, windows and flooring,” she adds.

Founded in 2002, Borano caters to luxury home builders and astute homeowners who appreciate quality and precision craftsmanship. Borano uses Honduran mahogany, which is considered to be one of the most precious woods in the world. Its warm, reddish tone deepens with age to a rich reddish-brown, making it suitable for a wide range of stains and finishes.

In addition to using sustainable timber, Borano only works with suppliers that have achieved SmartWood Certification and requires them to provide documentation showing compliance with both international and Honduran environmental management standards.

Established by the Rainforest Alliance, the SmartWood program sets an international standard for credibility in auditing environmentally and socially responsible forestry.

For Borano, sustainable forestry is a key issue and the company will seek to create greater awareness of its importance in the future.

“Sustainability is not only about quantity, but also about ecological quality,” notes Meckley. “The use of sustainable timber ensures that every extraction is compensated for. This is not the case for most other natural resources that are used.”

With over 85 craftsmen on staff, Borano doors are hand-built one at a time, using only true mahogany. True mahogany is an oil wood which is ideal for use in doors; other woods which are classified as sapwood can be prone to problems such as excessive contraction and expansion.
