Lentes met with readers, signed books, and discussed her book, In Remission, which details her family's efforts to support their dog through cancer treatment. Online PR News 30-November-2017 Author Pennye A. Lentes recently attended the Miami Book Fair, held November 13-20, 2017 at Miami-Dade College. She was on hand to meet with readers and sign copies of her book, In Remission: A Family's Struggle to Save Their Beloved Dog. Lentes' participation in the Fair and the book marketing campaign was managed by Greenberry Publishing, LLC. In Remission: A Family's Struggle to Save Their Beloved Dog is Lentes' first book. The book shares the journey Pennye and her husband, John, experienced from the moment they received news that their beloved dog, Ms. Piggy, had lymphoma. In Remission takes readers along as the family navigates the treatment, care, and convalescence of Ms. Piggy as she undergoes cancer treatment. "It was wonderful to connect with readers at the Miami Book Fair and hear how the book has helped them deal with their own pets' illnesses. In our case, the vets told us Ms. Piggy would be gone in a month if we didn't do anything. We couldn't even fathom not at least trying to save her so, we chose to put her through chemotherapy. It was difficult, but we just could not imagine life without her; a feeling that was echoed by many of the readers I spoke with at the Fair," said Lentes. Once the treatment plan was set, the couple set out to support Ms. Piggy in any way possible. That included taking a good, hard look at her food and natural remedies that might help their pet better handle chemotherapy treatments. The Lentes' started feeding Ms. Piggy an organic, grain free, and homemade diet that was high in protein. Together, lifestyle changes and medical treatment extended Ms. Piggy's life and she stayed in remission for 3 years before passing at the age of 10. Despite the nature of the content, In Remission is an uplifting, motivational story of how one family worked to save their pet's life. Along with insights into the family's struggles, In Remission contains information about Ms. Piggy's homemade diet, funny stories, and details of trips Ms. Piggy and her adopted brother, Kermit, loved to take. "I wrote In Remission to provide closure for myself but also to share with other pet lovers that a cancer diagnosis does not have to mean the end. Many pets have treatment options that, when coupled with diet and lifestyle changes, can help keep them healthy and in remission from disease," explained Lentes. After losing Piggy and Kermit to old age, Pennye began volunteering to help at animal shelters and fosters dogs for the humane society. She has another book in the works: Fostering a Broken Heart.
