Assessment of China’s Wine Market, 2019-2020 – ResearchAndMarkets.com

DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The “Assessment of China’s Wine Market, 2019-2020” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Assessment of China’s Wine Market, 2019-2020 highlights the key dynamics of the global and the Chinese wine market. The growing opportunity in the sector along with challenges has been investigated. The initiatives and performance of key players including has been examined. The current market scenario has also been studied. The report contains the latest views and opinions of industry leaders.

The global wine production reached a new height in 2018, at 292.3 MHL from 246.7 MHL in 2017. Wine production stabilized in 2018 post-Spain, Italy and France experiencing normal harvests. Italy was the leading wine producer followed by France and Spain. These countries together contribute over 50% of the world wine market by volume and are also the largest wine exporters, primarily to the United States.

The analysts are of the opinion that the outlook for China’s wine industry is moderate. Rising exposure of the Chinese to other countries of the world through travel and media is boosting the demand. There is rising consumer affinity for wine in general and imported wine in particular.

While the market for imported wine is still growing in the country, the growth has slowed. The volume of wine imported into China, in 2018, fell while value grew by 2.1% year-on-year. China consumes less imported wine, 1 bottle a month as compared to consumers in the United Kingdom who consume, on an average 1 bottle per week. While China is now becoming a mature wine market, the imported wine category still needs to be built and players need to raise their engagement levels with consumers.

While it is too early to gauge the full impact of the Coronavirus on the Chinese wine market, players expect a fall in sales in the first quarter of 2020. With people in China largely staying indoors and avoiding large social gatherings, domestic winemakers and distributors are experiencing a build-up of inventory and slow sales. Also, exporters of wine to China are faced with slow sales of existing stock in the country and fresh crates stuck at Chinese customs.
