Hundreds of delegates join the event to hear from industry practitioners and leading vendors.
Andrew Delaney, chief content officer at A-Team Group, opened the Summit before handing over to Peter Jackson, director, group data sciences at Legal & General, who presented an inspirational practitioner innovation keynote discussing how to drive insight, value and disruption out of data.
A second keynote by Giles Nelson, chief technology officer at MarkLogic, focussed on buy-side firms and considered the need for them to take a data-driven approach to transform their products and operations and achieve a 360 degree customer view, improved decision making, extended market reach and agile operations.
Peter Moss, CEO of the SmartStream RDU, delivered a third keynote questioning why data management is so difficult. He said the financial industry spends $28.5 billion on externally sourced market data and a further $2-3 billion cleaning it up. To reduce costs and improve quality, he called for industry cooperation to develop and implement effective data standards.
A final keynote on data ethics was presented by Lorraine Waters, chief data officer, financial crime risk at HSBC. She discussed the emergence of data ethics and explained how the bank has built a framework for data ethics based on seven practical and applicable principles.
The Summit also included a number of interactive and thought provoking panel sessions moderated by industry experts and covering everything from the new world of data to building smart analytics, implementing data lineage, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing data science capability, and delivering diversity in the workplace.
With the Summit keynotes and panel discussions complete, and more delegate questions asked than could be answered during the event, conversations continued during an animated drinks reception hosted by A-Team Group and joined by many of the summit participants.
Delaney commented: This Data Management Summit has pushed the boundaries, highlighting the themes of transformation, digitalisation and innovation, and offering market participants insight into how to succeed in a highly regulated and extremely competitive market.
