A Career Woman’s Guide to Dressing for a Job Interview

If you are a career woman who is focused on climbing the corporate ladder, you will probably change employers a few times on the way to corporate management and in this short article, we offer a few tips on how to look your best at an important job interview.

Professional hairstyle

When preparing for a very important meeting with a potential employer (or representative of), this is a time for a visit to your local hair salon or better still, ask a freelancer to visit you at home on the morning of the interview. 

Better to dress up than down

Regardless of the position you are applying for, it is better to dress up rather than down; wearing blue contact lenses that perfectly match your blouse is a chic touch while keeping jewellery to a minimum is advised. Attention to detail pays dividends and first impressions count for a lot in business.

Feel good about your look

Self-confidence is essential when presenting yourself to a potential employer, so whatever outfit you choose, it should be one that makes you feel good. Take a good look in a full-length mirror, looking for anything that looks out of place or not in harmony with your overall look and if you can’t find anything wrong, you are good to go.

Subtle scent

This is a time to splurge on some really expensive French perfume and apply very lightly; too much does nothing to enhance your image in a business environment where protocols are in place. Two short squirts on the nape of your neck are fine, or behind the ears, which older women prefer. 

Go for a beauty treatment the day before

Have a facial, manicure and pedicure and your skin will look radiant for a couple of days and noticeably so. Avoid sweet scents or indeed, anything that lingers. Ask your best friend for an opinion regarding perfume and this will give you added confidence in your choice.

If that slick business suit has been in the wardrobe for a few months, have it dry cleaned, then you are sure that you are looking your best. 

Take a deep breath, make sure you have your resume with you and go out there and make a positive impact on the interviewer and land that perfect job.
